Extra Rules
There are a few extra rules that the Student Handbook doesn't tell you:
- 1. P.D.A. (Public Display of Affection) is not allowed at ADVANCE, although
there are a few exceptions such as:
- a. Holding hands
- b. Head on shoulder
- c. Arm around shoulder
- d. Head on shoulder -arm around shoulder combination
- 2.Always wear your ID. Never leave anywhere without it, especially when you are leaving
your hall.
- 3.The Cafeteria is not all you can eat despite what the student handbook says.
- 4. The Dress Code (read it in the handbook please)
- a.Straps on tank tops must be as wide or wider than one inch.
- b.Some shorts are too short, but that is the staff's judgement.
- c.No strapless...
- d.Guys may not wear skirts for the sake of showing their girlfriend their "soft side".
- 5.You must clean your room before attending the dance. There will be cleaning materials
available and it should be a group effort between your suite.
Extra Information
Here are a few extra things that you may want to bring that the handbook does not specify:
- 1.You should bring food. Sometimes RA Groups get a very early dinner time and you may want a snack when you get to
your dorm room after a night activity. The food selection in the Cafeteria may not appeal to you once or twice and
it is wise to bring something to munch on to maintain your health and not upset
your stomach. Some suggestions for what to bring:
- Zip-lock bags
- Microwave popcorn
- Individual cracker packages
- Microwaveable ravioli/spaghetti cups
- Microwaveable Ramen noodle cups
- Trail mixes
- Beef Jerky
- Pop Tarts
- Just remember that you are not living off of your own supply of food, this is only for snacking and there are no
refrigerators to keep your food cold.
- 2. You are required to drink a glass of water with every meal. If you have a "thing" with tap water,
you may want to bring your own bottles of water.
- 3.You will share a shower with five other people in your suite. The tile is not only cold, but slippery
and it may be to your benefit if you bring old flip flops to wear in the shower.
- 4.You may want a plastic cup to wash out your mouth with after you brush your teeth. *There
are no complimentary plastic cups.*
- 5.The dorms can get chilly at night and it would be wise if you brought a heavy blanket or several thin blankets.
The air conditioners cannot be turned off and on by a student, so the blankets come in handy when there is not an RA
around after lights out.
- 6.The classrooms can be cold. Bring a light jacket or sweater.
