Alpha Omicron Pi Fraternity was founded on January 2, 1897 at Barnard College of Columbia University in New York City. The founders were Helen St. Clair Mullan, Elizabeth Heywood Wyman, Jessie Wallace Hughan, and Stella George Stern Perry. The founders formed Alpha Omicron Pi with the intentions of providing community service, leadership, and friendship for a lifetime.
