Welcome to Northwestern State University's Division I athletic program

The mission statement for the NSU athletic program speaks to a balance between academic and athletic success, as well as valuing the experience of every student-athlete and every one of NSU's 14 intercollegiate sports. The department's web site, with its diverse and creative content, is a reflection of that philosophy.

Hard news stories regularly promote the across-the-board success of NSU's sports teams - five of them (football, women's soccer, men's basketball, women's basketball, softball) have participated in NCAA postseason competition in the past three years, former triple jumper Kenta Bell made the 2004 U.S. Olympic team, and long jumper Stephanie Sowell has the best individual finish of any female track athlete in the Southland Conference. Game stories for all sports are posted almost immediately after the event has ended.

The site promotes NSU's ties to professional sports (San Diego Padres number one pitcher Brian Lawrence, five NSU alumni in the NFL), features updated photos from all sports on the "Gary's Gallery" link, and provides a department directory along with updated statistics and roster information for all sports. The innovative "Demon Dust" column features timely and reminiscing columns from current and past fans, student-athletes, and coaches. Last, but certainly not least, the academic success of NSU student-athletes is promoted through stories and photo spreads from events such as the annual Academic Achievement Banquet and the Graduation Honors Reception.
