Greg Burke, Director of AthleticsWelcome to Northwestern State University's Division I athletic program.

It was once written by W. Somerset Maugham that, “It is a very funny thing about life: if you refuse to accept anything but the best you very often get it.”

For the 300 or so student-athletes who are the heart and soul of the Northwestern State University athletic program, it is the goal of the NSU Athletic Department on a daily basis that those young people “refuse to accept anything else.” Every coach and staff member, not to mention faculty members and others associated with the program, are committed to helping these student-athletes become the best person, student, and athlete possible.

The recently redesigned and significantly upgraded web site for the NSU athletic department – www.nsudemons.com – is a virtual library of information regarding the community, academic, and athletic achievements of NSU student-athletes. Hard news stories might detail how the NSU student-athlete family contributed 1,800 hours of community service to the Natchitoches and its surrounding area for the 2007-08 year……or highlight the continued success of NSU student-athletes in the annual NCAA Academic Progress Report (APR)…..or promote another Southland Conference championship or NCAA postseason appearance by an NSU team (football, women’s soccer, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, baseball, and softball have all made NCAA tournament appearances and in most cases, on more than one occasion).

The special features of the new web site are equally attractive. The new video streaming component will be utilized for almost every NSU home athletic event beginning with the 2008-09 year while out-of-town contests in many sports will be audio streamed. There is information about the NSU professional sports legacy (five former Demons on 2007 NFL rosters) and offensive tackle Demetrius Bell was taken by the Buffalo Bills in the 2008 NFL draft). The ever popular “Gary’s Gallery” contains updated photos from all teams, the innovative “Demon Dust” features timely and reminiscing columns from current and past fans, student-athletes, and coaches, and the “Daily Demon Blog” has the latest insider information from the athletic program.

It is an exciting time to be a part of the Northwestern State athletic program and there is no better place to read about the good news than on www.nsudemons.com.
