Welcome to the College of Business!

A message from the Dean of the College:

Welcome :

Our College of Business offers excellent business programs that embrace analytical thinking, technology, and the necessary tools to enable graduates to compete and succeed in a global economy. The Dean’s office coordinates the operations of the three baccalaureate degree programs—Accounting, Business Administration and Computer Information Systems and the two associate degree programs—Business Administration and Office Administration offered by the College of Business.

We have an outstanding faculty and degree programs. Our accomplishments are evidenced in our accreditation by the highest accrediting agency in the world for business programs, AACSB International. In achieving this recognition, we joined an elite group of the top 10% of business colleges throughout the world.

While our Accounting and Business Administration programs remain excellent, congratulations are again in order for our Computer Information Systems faculty and students for winning the 2007 Region 3 Best Student Chapter. This follows five consecutive years as AITP national champions in systems analysis and design. Computer Information System graduates have consistently placed in the top brackets of national competitions for systems analysis & design and applications development.

We began this academic year by awarding eight endowed professorships to deserving faculty. During the upcoming year, we will have the opportunity to fill the Charles Ragus Family Endowed Chair. This million dollar chair will allow us to recruit and bring a nationally recognized scholar to campus. These professorships and chair will provide the means by which faculty can travel to professional meetings, support student efforts, and secure software and hardware to support their academic efforts. Next year, we will have the fortune of awarding three additional professorships to our faculty courtesy of the generosity of our alumni and friends.

We start this fall by offering a slightly different approach to our annual Walter Porter Forum. This Forum has for years brought business leaders to the campus to interact with our students. In response to a request that we expand our external outreach, we are inviting the business community as a group to participate in a learning experience with our students. We have invited a nationally recognized economic forecaster to come to campus and talk about the national economy. He will be followed by a speaker from the US Air Force discussing the provisional Cyber Innovation Command being established at Barksdale AF Base. Knowledge about our national and regional economies is an extremely important part of being an educated business leader. These events will be video streamed and can be accessed on this website.

Thank you for your support and interest.
