Choral Organizations -
- NSU Chamber Choir
- Conducted by Dr. Burt Allen, Director of Choral Activities
- Most Highly auditioned of the choral ensembles
- Made up of 26-32 singers
- Have performed across Louisiana and in numerous locations in Texas
- Appear on two Compact Discs Ensemble Spirit and their own separate recording of Christmas carols including the complete series of the Alfred Burt carols, entitled "Caroling, Caroling"
- Solo performance debut in Carnegie Hall, NYC, March 1997
- Tour annually---primarily in Louisiana and Texas
- Perform Fall Concert, Candlelight Service of Lessons and Carols in Natchitoches and Alexandria, Tour Concerts, Spring Concert, combine with Concert Choir for major works with NSU Orchestra
- NSU Concert Choir
- Conducted by Dr. Burt Allen
- Auditioned mixed choir of 75-90 voices
- Perform in the annual Christmas Gala, their own Fall Choral Concert, Spring Choral Concert, and appear annually with the NSU Symphony performing major choral compositions for orchestra and choir
- Have also appeared with the Shreveport Symphony in Mahler Second Symphony and Beethoven Ninth Symphony.
- NSU Women's Chorus
- Conducted by Terrie Sanders, Asst. Prof. of Music, Voice/Choral Faculty
- Consists of 35-45 women, with varied majors, who enjoy choral singing
- Sings a varied repertory, music from the Renaissance-20th Century, folk songs, spirituals, etc Occasionally travel to perform for high schools in the region
- NSU Men's Chorus
- Conducted by Michael Rorex, Asst. Prof. of Music, Voice/Choral Faculty
- Consists of 20-30 men with a variety of majors
- Sing a wide variety of music including Renaissance-20th Century, folk, glee club, spirituals, etc.
- Other Vocal Opportunities
- Musical Theater Productions in conjunction with NSU Theatre Program
- Voice Lessons, Solo Recital Appearances, NATS Competitions
- Full complement of Vocal Music Classes including Diction, Pedagogy, and Vocal Literature

Scholarship and Financial Assistance
A significant number of generous scholarships are available from NSU in the form of ensemble participation awards, regardless of major. The amount of award will depend on demonstrated achievement and potential for growth, as determined by audition. In cooperation with the Financial Aid Office, students may be eligible for additional assistance. Out-of-state tuition is waived for scholarship recipients who meet required minimum high school G.P.A.
Auditions
The audition dates for this spring semester are February 16 and March 2, 3, & 10. Students may either reserve a time for one of these days or set up an individual time according to which solution works best for them.
Individual Audition Dates may be scheduled during the late Fall and throughout the Spring semester. You may arrange for an individual audition date by calling 318-357-5755.
