Mr. Kevin Richardson is Associate Director of Bands and Assistant Professor of Music at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. His responsibilities at NSU include directing the 300+ member “Spirit of Northwestern” Demon Marching Band, conducting the Wind Ensemble, and teaching courses in conducting, wind literature, and marching band techniques. Prior to this appointment, Mr. Richardson served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for three years at the University of Houston in Houston, Texas. While at UH, Mr. Richardson studied conducting and rehearsal techniques with Tom Bennett, David Bertman, and Eddie Green. His minor course of study was in composition where he studied with Dr. Rob Smith. Mr. Richardson’s original composition for Wind Ensemble, Epitaph of Seikilos, was premiered in 2005 by the University of Houston Symphonic Winds. Mr. Richardson taught high school band in Texas for 10 years. He was an Associate Director of Bands at Mesquite High School in Mesquite and Stroman High School in Victoria. He was the Director of Bands at Columbia High School in West Columbia and West Orange – Stark High School in Orange. Bands under Mr. Richardson’s direction earned many superior ratings and sweepstakes awards at Festivals throughout the country as well as in University Interscholastic League marching, concert and sightreading contests. Mr. Richardson is currently pursuing the degree of Doctor of Musical Arts in Conducting at the University of Houston. He holds the Master of Music Degree from Northwestern State University where he studied conducting with Bill Brent and Dr. George Adams, percussion with Ken Green, and composition with Richard Rose. Mr. Richardson holds the Bachelor of Music Degree from The University of Texas at Austin, where he was a student of Paula Crider, Jerry Junkin, Glenn Richter, Richard Floyd, and Dr. George Frock. Mr. Richardson is active as a clinician and adjudicator in Louisiana and Texas. He is a member of Louisiana Music Educators’Association, Texas Music Educators’ Association, Texas Bandmasters’ Association, Percussion Arts Society, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
