Sacred Music Program
The Sacred Music program allows students to obtain a BM in performance while at the same time earning a concentration in sacred music. The curriculum includes classes such as: Church Music History, Liturgics, Hymnody, Church Music Administration, Choral Conducting, and Choral Literature. Sacred music students also have the advantage of receiving hands-on training through working with the lab choir under the guidance of Dr. Burt Allen, Director of Choral Studies. The Sacred Music program prepares students to work in any type of church setting by way of instruction and through specific degree courses.
The Facilities
The Magale Recital Hall houses a three manual, 40-rank Reuter pipe organ, which was installed in 1983. The studio organ is a two manual, 10-rank Schantz pipe organ and the additional practice organ is a Rodgers digital organ, model 535. Students will also have access to numerous practice rooms to practice piano as well as voice. Vocal students will find great ease in practicing with the Yamaha disklavier pianos. The piano lab has all new full-sized keyboards complete with midi and sequencing capabilities and the updated student lab contains numerous recordings, computers, CD burners, scanners, and laser printers.
