GENERAL INFORMATION POLICIES & PROCEDURES SPECIAL PROGRAMS COUNSELING RESOURCES

Outreach
Educational programs are offered on various mental health issues and concerns of college students. Programs on stress management, career decision-making, eating disorders, substance abuse, depression, anxiety, etc. are often requested by faculty, organizations, and residential life staff.

In addition, we are available to consult with faculty, staff, parents or students who may be concerned about a student and wish to make a referral. Persons who are concerned about a student are urged to contact Counseling and Career Services for consultation. We cannot, however, share any information with anyone about a student receiving counseling without the written consent of the student. Requests for programs can be made to any staff member. Please call or come by our office if you are interested in a program. We are located in Room 305, Student Union building and our phone number is 357-5621.

Support Groups
Support groups are offered to the students of NSU to provide the opportunity to share common concerns, to use fellow students as resources, and to seek solutions to their own concerns.

Support groups are formed around issues that are of concern to students. Some of the support groups offered include Eating Disorders Group, Sexual Assault Survivors Group, Women's Support Group, Grief and Loss Group, Stress management/Anxiety Reduction Group, and Building Relationships Group. Groups usually meet once a week for 8-10 weeks.

If you have a special interest or would like to develop a group you think is needed on campus, please contact Rebecca Boone at 357-5621.

Internship Site
The Office of Counseling and Career Services serves as an internship site for the Student Personal Services Graduate Program interns and as a practicum site for Psychology graduate students. The SPS Graduate Students are supervised by the professional counseling staff. The internship experience provides an opportunity for the intern to act in a professional capacity providing personal and career counseling services and outreach programming.
