WESTERN REGIONAL CONVENTON IN LAS VEGAS
The 2004 Creole Family
History Convention is scheduled for May 20-21 and will carry the theme
"Las Vegas Presents CREOLE". This event will be
held on the campus at University of Nevada at Las Vegas (UNLV).
Workshops around the topics EDUCATION, RESEARCH, CULTURE and DIVERSITY as it
relates to the Creole people are presently being developed. Associated with this
event will be the opportunity for all attendees to be a part of the Creole
Families Reunion in Las Vegas to be held on Saturday, May 22 at a location to be
named later.
A recent mailout has been
sent to all registered addresses in our database announcing this event and
requesting feedback information towards developing travel packages. This
feedback questionnaire is now online and can be accessed below. The
prompt return of this information will assist us in the negotiations to acquire
blocks of rooms, develop shuttle service in
Las Vegas and charter bus service from
California as well as other associated activities. As a part of this convention we
are planning to develop a professionally printed Commemorative Book. This
book will be printed in limited quantities and will be available for sale at the
convention. In order to hold the costs down as much as possible, we will
be selling ad space in this book. An insert for this purpose was also
included in the recent mailout. A link to the online version of this ad
contract is shown below. An additional opportunity will be given to all Creole
connections (families, friends and supporters) to make contributions
through donations in exchange for a listing in the Creole Memorial & Tribute
pages that will be included in the Commemorative Book. All donations will
be used to offset as much of expenses as possible for this event thereby helping
to reduce any necessary registration fee. A form to submit your
listing(s) can be accessed below. This form can be printed and necessary
copies can be made for each submittal. A donation of just $5 will be
required for each listing. A link to sample listings is also included
below.
In addition to the workshops listed, we will also have
separate sessions on music, Creole cuisine and genealogy. These sessions
will be repeated throughout the day and will include a more one-on-one program.
There will also be a computer lab set-up with access to the Center's National
Creole Family History Database. A tentative schedule has been developed,
see below.
At this time the workshop panels have not been fully
developed and anyone wishing to participate is encouraged to contact us. We
are also open to any suggestions, assistance or feedback on this proposed
venture.
