Legal Assistant Program Courses

Undergraduate Credit Only:

LAP 3010 - Introduction to Law (3 hrs.) - Development of common and civil law traditions in the U.S.; trends in the legal profession; role of a legal assistant.

LAP 3020 - Legal Research (3 hrs.) - Methods and tools of legal research; primary and secondary sources of law.

LAP 3030 - Litigation (3 hrs.) - Differences in civil and criminal litigation; preparation and examination, under attorney supervision, of forms and documents relating to litigation.

LAP 3040 - Estates, Trusts, Wills (3 hrs.) - Preparation of legal documents, under the supervision of an attorney, associated with planning estates and other related matters.

LAP 3050 - Corporations (3 hrs.) - Preparation of initial and amended articles of incorporation and other documents and transactions pertaining to corporations.

LAP 3060 - Real Estate and Mortgages (3 hrs.) - Preparation and information regarding basic real estate transfers and associated documents; title searches, preparation of preliminary abstracts of titles, etc., under the supervision of an attorney.

LAP 3070 - Family Relations Law (3 hrs.) - Preparation of documents, knowledge of procedures and other matters related to domestic relations law.

LAP 3080 - Law Office Administration (3 hrs.) - Approaches to the organization and efficient operation of the law office.
