A native of Oil City, Louisiana, Joe Morris teaches Criminal Justice courses at Northwestern State University.  A veteran of more than 20 years in law enforcement who has survived numerous armed encounters, he brings a unique perspective on law enforcement to the classroom.  Mr. Morris has received numerous awards during his career.  He started his career in patrol and transferred to undercover narcotics investigation where he worked for more than four years.  One investigation led to 72 indictments, all either pled guilty or were found guilty at trial.  Mr. Morris also worked as a criminal investigator on varied cases including burglary, armed robbery, rape, and homicide.  He served as a supervisor in the Identification Division and set up the department training division.  Joe Morris led the implementation of community policing in North Caddo Parish and implemented several programs to better serve the citizens such as a summer youth program, citizen advisory committee, and a program using elderly volunteers to check on the welfare of elderly citizens living alone in the community.  Joe Morris was an adjunct instructor for the police academy for over twelve years.  During this time he developed two courses, Police Stress, which was P.O.S.T. (Police Officer Standards and Training) approved and mandated for state-wide training and a course dealing with the elderly that P.O.S.T. approved as an elective.   He also rewrote the Criminal Investigation courses which were P.O.S.T. approved.

Mr. Morris actively engages his students in the classroom and blends street level policing with the theories and practices necessary for a successful career in the Criminal Justice field.
