High School Drumline, Drum Major/Leadership, & Auxiliary Camp : apply now : pdf

Drumline: Workshops include detailed explanations of contemporary
techniques and current trends in marching and pit percussion. Groups bringing
their entire line may bring a feature to work on with the camp staff.
Instruction includes technique, warm-ups, cadences with visuals, tuning and
maintenance, audition preparation, marching techniques, leadership and
teamwork.
Drum Major/Leadership Camp: Workshops address everything from clarity of patterns to
preventing phasing on the field. Participants work on all aspects of their
position, from salutes and conducting to leadership and organizational skills
that will be help the season run smoothly. This camp is also designed for Section Leaders, Band Council members, or anyone who desires to be a leader of any kind in his or her music program in the future. The camp will focus on all aspects of leadership including motivation, organization, communication, character development, public speaking, and time management. Various leadership styles will be discussed and implemented as campers are involved in highly interactive segments and activities. Campers will work with and learn from some of the most dynamic leaders in the field of music education.
Auxiliary (Colorguard and majorettes/feature twirlers): Fundamental
instruction and group routine performances. Camp workshops include two batons,
knives, choreography of routines, dance steps and pep rally routines.
Participants may bring fall music for the staff to help choreography routines
for performances. The coordinator of the Auxiliary Camp is Mr. James Thomas of Dallas, Texas. In addition to coordinating the NSU “Demon Heat” Color Guard, Mr. Thomas has been the choreographer for half-time shows of the Nokia Sugra Bowl, the Fed Ex Orange Bowl and the AXA Liberty Bowl. He currently instructs several award-winning high school Color Guards in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

Spend a week of your summer vacation at band camp on the campus of NSU located
in Natchitoches, LA. The NSU High School Band Camp is designed to meet the
special musical needs of students who have completed grades 9 – 12. The camper
will enjoy a collegiate atmosphere with instruction and supervision provided by
expert NSU staff and faculty along with outstanding music educator’s and NSU
music education majors. In addition to band performance, classes in music
theory and literature, master class group lessons and recreational activities
will be included.

The NSU Middle School String Camp is designed to meet the special musical needs
of students who have completed grades 6, 7, or 8. The campers will enjoy a
collegiate atmosphere with instruction and supervision provided by expert NSU
staff and faculty along with qualified orchestra directors and outstanding NSU
undergraduate and graduate students.
