Accreditation

Northwestern State University is accredited by the commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia, telephone number 404-679-4501) to award associate, baccalaureate, master's, and specialist's degrees.  It is a member in good standing of the Association of American Colleges and also of the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education.

All degree programs at the bachelor's level in education and those leading to the Master of Education and Specialist in Education degrees are accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.  The Graduate School is a member of the Council of Graduate Schools in the United States.  The undergraduate programs in nursing are approved by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing and all programs, undergraduate and graduate, are accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, and the Bachelor of Science and the Master of Science in Nursing also have preliminary approval by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.  The Master of Arts in Student Personnel Services is fully accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs.

Baccalaureate degree programs in the College of Business are accredited by the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business (also referred to as the International Association for Management Education).  The College of Business is also a member in good standing of the National Association of Business Teacher Education. All degree programs in music are accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music.  The baccalaureate degree in Theatre is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre.  The Industrial Technology program is accredited by the National Association of Industrial Technology.  All degree programs in Family and Consumer Sciences are accredited by the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences.

The Chemistry program at NSU is approved by the American Chemical Society.  The accreditation for the Medical Technology degree is held by each individual hospital affiliate. The Radiologic Technology program is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology.  The Social Work program is accredited at the Bachelor's level by the Council on Social Work Education.  The Veterinary Technology program is accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association.

The undergraduate program in Journalism is accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication.
