High School Articulation Initiative

The High School Articulation Initiative provides several programs in which high schools can partner with Northwestern to provide students with opportunities to progress in their post-secondary education. These programs include:

StepUp
Articulation with Academies
Transitions

STEP UP (Success Through Early Preparation for Undergraduate Programs) is a program that provides for university courses to be taught to eligible high school students during the normal high school schedule. This program encourages dual credit for courses, as long as the university syllabus and textbook serve as the benchmark for the course. Students are offered reduced tuition and are considered to be dually enrolled, earning a grade in the college course.

Beginning with the Fall 2003 semester, NSU partnered with the LA Virtual School to offer STEP UP courses online. For more information, visit http://www.nsula.edu/ece/PerkinsProgram/StepUp.asp.

Articulation with Academies

This program follows typical articulation scenarios by establishing an Articulation Agreement with the participating academy. Upon completion of the requisite academy curriculum and other requirements, students are granted banked college credit. Credit is pass/fail in nature and no grade is awarded. The first agreement was signed in the Fall of 2002.

Participating Academies:

Articulation Agreements are currently in place with the following Academies:

There are no agreements in place at this time.

If your academy is interested in pursuing an articulation agreement with NSU, please contact us at perkins@nsula.edu.

Transitions

Transitions provides an opportunity for high school students who will enter college requiring remediation to receive that remediation in high school. Students who attend a participating high school can enroll in Transitions courses in Math and/or English. These are high school electives and carry no college credit. Upon completion of the course, students may take the NSU placement exam. If they have mastered the necessary skills, they should pass the exam with the requisite score to enter college level courses. Students may also retake the ACT to see if their score has improved enough to place them in college level courses. Students must successfully complete NSU’s exam or make the required ACT score to bypass developmental course requirements.

Visit www.nsula.edu/transitions for online help in mastering basic skills that will help students to prepare for NSU’s placement exam.
