Add-on Certification: Mild/Moderate Special Education

Northwestern State University offers an online add-on mild/moderate special education certification for teachers and future teachers. The program, approved by the Louisiana Department of Education, consists of 15 hours of coursework and passing scores for PRAXIS Education of Exceptional Students: (1) Core Content Knowledge (0353) and (2) Education of Exceptional Students: Mild to Moderate Disabilities (0542). This innovative program is a nationally recognized and accredited program by the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) and National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Educators (NCATE). It prepares teachers for teaching students with exceptional learning needs. Candidates may complete certification requirements in a calendar year if they so choose.
