The Unit is committed to promoting equity and justice for all candidates as evidenced by the Conceptual Framework, Models for Learning. We are unwavering in our commitment to nurture candidates’ knowledge, skills, and dispositions across all initial and advanced programs and to empower each candidate to meet the needs of diverse student populations. Opportunities for working with diverse faculty, diverse student populations, and diverse candidates are integrated into all programs. We recognize the necessity for building a society in which all members acknowledge, respect, and learn from their differences. The Unit defines diversity as differences in gender, race, ethnicity, language, religion, socioeconomic status, exceptionalities, and geographic background. We view our campus as a caring, concerned community in which all members are able to thrive and grow.
Our location enables us to provide a rich historical background to which many diverse groups have made ongoing contributions. We pride ourselves in integrating our rich history into all areas of study. We include many activities that provide opportunities for students, faculty, and administration to learn about and from each other. Acknowledgement of and respect for all diverse groups is interwoven into course offerings across the unit. The diversity of our student body, faculty, and administration provides a palette of wonderful colors from which the tapestry of our university is woven.
