Goal One: Establish a campus that accepts, appreciates, and values diversity.
- Develop activities that foster an awareness and acceptance of cultural diversity.
- Encourage staff participation in multicultural activities.
- Create opportunities for multicultural speakers and cultural events for administration, faculty, and students.
Goal Two: Advance an administration, faculty, and staff that is reflective of the community and student population.
- Advertise vacancies through several avenues and with the appropriate media to effectively reach racial, ethnic, and gender groups
- Actively recruit faculty members by conducting recruitment searches at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU)’s
- Review and revise orientation courses to embrace diversity concepts.
Goal Three: Advocate the concept of diversity throughout the unit environment.
- Encourage staff, faculty, and students to share their multicultural experiences
- Provide opportunities for faculty, staff, and students to share their cultural beliefs and traditions.
Goal Four: Empower candidates to interact with diverse students, candidates, and faculty.
- Encourage candidates to participate in diversity related workshops and professional development throughout the state.
- Provide staff development activities that promote acceptance and respect for diversity for staff, faculty, and administration.
Goal Five: Evaluate candidates, faculty, and staff perceptions of diversity awareness.
- Conduct student opinion survey.
- Conduct faculty and staff survey.
Goal Six: Align College of Education diversity plan with the University diversity plan.
- Review the University plan for 1999-2004 and revise for 2005-2010.
- Align the diversity plan for the College of Education with the Conceptual Framework.
