The
College of Nursing currently has eight (8) endowed professorships.  The current recipients of the endowed professorships for 2003-2004 are:

Coughlin-Saunders Endowed Professorship – Ann Deshotels

Carolyn Cole Saunders Endowed Professorship – Diane Webb

Robert Rife Saunders Endowed Professorship – Carolyn Hartt

F. Hugh Coughlin Endowed Professorship – Debra Baggett-Woodard

Coughlin-Saunders Foundation Professorships:

The GOALS/OBJECTIVES of the Coughlin-Saunders Foundation professorships are to enrich the College of Nursing (BSN,RN to BSN, MSN, and BSRT) programs in the central Louisiana area by providing support for instructional resources, student recruitment and retention, and faculty development.

Rapides Regional Medical Center Radiologic Technology Professorships:

The GOALS/OBJECTIVES of the Rapides Foundation professorships are to enrich the College of Nursing Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Technology program by providing support for instructional resources, student recruitment and retention, and faculty development.

Creighton Owen Nursing Professorship:

 

The GOALS/OBJECTIVES of the Creighton Owen Endowed Professorship in Nursing are to enrich the College of Nursing programs in the Leesville/Fort Polk areas by providing support for instructional resources, student recruitment and retention, an faculty development.


REQUIREMENTS: The following factors are evaluated in the selection process. A total score for each applicant is determined and applicants are rank ordered. (see Applicant Rating Scale

1. Faculty evaluations for the previous year.
2. Student evaluations of faculty for the previous year.
3. Evidence of professional/scholarly activity

PROCEDURE FOR SELECTION

Procedure for Selection

 

  1. Applicant submits a letter of intent to appropriate Program Director in February.  Letter should contain evidence to document that appointment criteria have been met and rationale for request, including proposed budget.

 

  1. Program director or Dean forwards letter(s) of intent to the Selection Committee and indicates whether or not they endorse the faculty’s application for the professorship.

 

  1. Selection Committee reviews and selects professorship and informs Dean.  Dean will notify recipients of selection and that their name has been submitted to the Provost for approval.  Dean notifies Program Directors of names submitted.

 

  1. Dean informs Provost.

 

  1. The Provost informs individual professorship recipients of selection.

 

Duration of Professorship:  One academic year OR one fiscal year (July 1 through June 30) unless stipulated otherwise.

 

Evaluation Procedure

 

1.                  Recipients will prepare end of the year report and submit to the Selection Committee and Dean for review.  Included in the report will be the budget as well as activities and other expenditures.  Rationale for how each expenditure assisted in accomplishing the goals and objectives of the professorship must be included.

 

2.                  A copy of the annual report will be submitted to the Provost and appropriate Endowment Agency.

 

3.                  Results of the Selection Committee’s review will be forwarded to the Dean with a recommendation to continue or discontinue the Endowed Professorship.

 

4.                  Dean meets with recipients to discuss the Selection Committee’s recommendation.

 

5.                  Dean notifies Selection Committee of status of professorship.

ENDOWED PROFESSORSHIPS POLICY

Endowed Professorships are awarded on an annual basis to full-time faculty:

 

1.      Whose accomplishments have resulted in significant impact on the development of  the University, or

 

2.      Who show greatest potential as contributors to the further development of the University and its programs.

 

The following criteria have been established to select recipients for each Endowed Professorship:

 

1.      The Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs shall appoint an Approving Agent (Dean, Director, Department Head, etc.) for each Endowed Professorship.

 

2.      The Approving Agent will appoint a Selection Committee consisting of faculty members within the academic unit to establish guidelines for the selection process consistent with the intent and guidelines of the Endowed Professorship.

 

3.      The recipient may be any full-time faculty member eligible to receive benefits from the Endowed Professorship other than an Approving Agent as identified above.

 

4.      The Selection Committee appointed by the Approving Agent will solicit nominations from the appropriate Academic Unit or from the University as a whole.  Self-nominations will be accepted.  The Committee will consider applicants and recommends a recipient to the Approving Agent. The Approving Agent will notify the recipient and will make the final recommendation to the Provost. The Provost will officially notify the recipient of the Award.

 

5.      The award may be used for salary, or equipment, or travel, or any combination thereof, and is not necessarily limited to those categories.  At the inception of the award, the Approving Agent and the recipient will prepare a written agreement that delineates the specific expectations and performance objectives for the funded period.

 

6.      Disbursement of funds shall be made in accordance with the approved budget submitted to the Office of Business Affairs and authorized by the Approving Agent and Provost.

 

7.      A formal written report shall be prepared annually by the recipient and submitted to the Selection Committee and Approving Agent. This report constitutes the reporting requirement by the Board of Regents for the Endowed Professorship.

 

8.      The Selection Committee shall annually review the performance of the Endowed Professorship to ascertain if the specific expectations and performance objectives were met.

 

9.      Results of the Committee’s review will be forwarded to the Approving Agent along with a recommendation for either continuance or discontinuance applicable to the Endowed Professorship.

 

10.  A meeting between the Approving Agent and the recipient of the Endowed Professorship will be held to discuss the Committee’s recommendation. Action by the Approving Agent may include:

 

a.       Affirm the continuance of the recipient in the Endowed Professorship,

b.      Affirm the continuance of the recipient in the Endowed Professorship with modifications to the performance objectives, or

c.       Declare and make known to the Selection Committee that the Endowed Professorship is vacant.
