Demon
Dazzler Danceline
The
Demon Dazzlers serve as the official jazz line for Northwestern
State University. Performing for the NSU Demon football and
basketball games, the Demon Dazzlers blend the styles of jazz
dance and precision movement to produce a unique style of
precision dance.
The Demon Dazzlers serve as an auxiliary unit of the "Spirit
of Northwestern" Marching Band, accompanying them to
various marching festivals, parades and guest appearances.
The Demon Dazzlers provide half-time entertainment for both
the Demon football and basketball games.
Scholarships
A scholarship of $500 for each semester of performance will
be granted to each Demon Dazzler, and field uniform expense
will be provided by the university.
Cheerleaders
The NSU cheerleaders serve as the official spirit group of
Northwestern State University. The co-ed spirit group appears
at athletic events and alumni functions throughout the year.
The Cheerleaders provide spirit at all home football and basketball
games and at selected away games, with tumbling and high flying
fun. Stunting and tumbling are required.
Scholarships
A scholarship of $500 for each semester of performance will
be granted to each Cheerleader, and field uniforms will be
provided by the university.
Purple Pizazz Pom Pon Line
The Purple Pizazz Pom Pon Line serves as the official pom pon
line of Northwestern. Performing for NSU Demon football and
basketball games, the Purple Pizazz blends the styles of cheerleading
and dance to provide spirit throughout the year. The Purple
Pizazz serves as a spirited hostess group for the Office of
Admissions and Recruiting, including parades, guest appearances
and football games at home. During the spring semester, the
Purple Pizazz provide the spirit for the home basketball games.
Scholarships
A scholarship of $450 for each semester of performance will
be granted to each member of the Purple Pizazz, and field
uniform expenses will be provided by the university.
"Vic"
the Demon
"Vic"
the Demon is the official mascot for the Northwestern Demons.
"Vic" will lead the NSU Demons to victory during
the football and basketball seasons.
Scholarships
A scholarship of $500 for each semester of performance will
be awarded to "Vic" the Demon.
Out of State
Spirit Group scholarship recipients are also eligible for
out-of-state fee waivers with a 2.5 high school/college cumulative
GPA.
Eligibility
To be eligible to audition for any Northwestern Spirit Group,
the applicant must plan to enroll at Northwestern State University
and must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA on all academic work.
Applicants must have a cumulative 2.0 GPA at the time of audition
to be eligible.
Selection of members is based on audition and selection procedures
which are conducted during the spring and summer semesters.
Audition procedure is determined by the director.
Auditions
Auditions for NSU Spirit Groups will be held in various locations
on the Northwestern Campus. Practice sessions are open to
the public; all auditions are closed to the public. For further
