Checklist for Transfer Students

 


 

If you are transferring for the Spring Semester…

 

November

q       Add NSU’s school code (002021) to your FAFSA by calling the Federal Processor at (800) 433-3243 or you can add it on-line at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

q       Complete an NSU Data Form and Entrance Interview for NSU.

q       Request a copy of your academic transcript to be sent to the Financial Aid office and the Registrar’s office.

 

December

q       Check with the Financial Aid office to make sure all paperwork has been received.

q       Make sure your aid at the school you are currently attending has been cancelled for the Spring semester.

q       KEEP COPIES OF ALL FORMS YOU SUBMIT.

 

January

q       Check with the Financial Aid office to make sure no additional paperwork is needed before the Spring semester begins.

 

If you are transferring for the Fall Semester…

 

November

q       Check with Financial Aid office to see what paperwork is needed and what the due dates are.

q       Request a copy of your academic transcript to be sent to the Financial Aid office and the Registrar’s office.

 

December

q       Pick up a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the next academic year at your local library or the NSU Office of Student Financial Aid.  You can begin working on this but do not submit it before January 1st.

 

January

q       Complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.  You can submit this by mail or over the internet at www.fafsa.ed.gov.  Submit this application as soon after January 1st as possible.

q       KEEP COPIES OF ALL FORMS YOU SUBMIT.

q       PARENTS:  It is helpful to get your income tax returns prepared early – copies of them may be requested to verify financial aid eligibility.

 

February

q       Complete the Financial Aid Data Form and Entrance Interview form.

q       Submit your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid, if you have not already done so).

 

March

q       Check with the Financial Aid office to see if any additional paperwork is needed.

q       Look for you Student Aid Report (SAR) in the mail.  Your SAR will give you information on your financial aid eligibility.  It will also tell you if you have been selected for Verification.  READ IT CAREFULLY!

q       If you have not received your Student Aid Report four weeks after sending in your FAFSA, contact the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-433-3243 or www. Fafsa.ed.gov.

 

April

q       Look for an award letter in the mail from the financial aid office.  Make sure all the aid you expected is listed on the award letter.  If you have any questions call the Office of Student Financial Aid.

 

May, June and July

q       Keep checking with the financial aid office to see if your aid is getting processed and if there is any additional paperwork needed.
