Selling or Otherwise Using State Property for Personal Gain

 

The use of State property, materials, supplies, equipment, resources, etc., (tagged or untagged), for private use or personal gain, is prohibited by the Louisiana Constitution of 1974, Article 7, Section 14, according to the NSU Property Control Policy & Procedures Manual [Section 4.0, Item 4.1].

 

Institutional resources shall not be used for personal gain, according  to the University of Louisiana System Board Rules [Part II, Chapter III, Section 7(A)(6)].

 

As such, even items that one may consider as trash or worthless, may not be sold or used in any other manner that results in personal gain.

 

As a public employee, you may not profit from items purchased with University dollars.

 

As a public employee, you may not profit from items donated to the University.

 

As a public employee, you have a "personal obligation not to misappropriate, misapply, convert, misuse, or otherwise wrongfully take any funds, property, or other thing of value belonging to or under the custody or control of the public entity in which they hold office or are employed".  [See LA R.S. 42:1461(A)]
