INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ADVISORY COUNCIL (ITAC)
Wednesday, September 12, 2001
The Information Technology Advisory Council met at 3:05 p.m., Wednesday
September 12, 2001 in Russell Hall. Members present were Dr. Bob Gillan—College of Education, Dr. Tom Hall—IET, Susan Pierce—Nursing, Dr. Mark Thompson—Creative and Performing Arts, Ms.Gail Kwak—Watson Library, Zachary Pullian—SGA Representative, Kris Trull—NSU/Fort Polk (substituting for Juanita Darby) and
Dr. Anthony Scheffler, Chair.
Dr. Scheffler began by telling the members that all meetings of ITAC were open to anyone who wished to attend. The purpose of this Council is to look at what is going on campus-wide and to determine what is best for the University in regards to the availability of on-line technology for students in the future. The group discussed assigning sub-committees who will gather information from all areas of the campus concerning departmental needs and then report back to the ITAC committee.
The Council discussed ideas for gaining interest in the development and implementation of future goals. A few of these ideas is as follows:
(1) Invite Darlene Williams or Jim McCrory to meetings to have presentations
(2) Inform faculty/students by conducting a training support class
(3) Generate an e-mail survey form to inform faculty and or staff and students
to submit feedback
Dr. Mark Thompson volunteered to update the present NSTEP document for content and organize guiding objectives for each major area in the plan prior to the next meeting. An important aspect of updating the document is the readability of the plan.
There was discussion concerning moving services to the Library and the role that the Library will play in the new technology. To become a wireless campus and to have integrated access to all students off campus as well as those on campus is a large priority. Classroom technology and equipment available for this were also discussed.
Dr. Scheffler stated that the ITAC should cover all bases to come up with a plan, then to develop and implement this plan. The next meeting of the ITAC is scheduled for Wednesday, October 3, 2001. He told the Council that they should determine what the plan is, where we want it to be and what to do to get there.
The meeting adjourned at 4:15 p.m.
