The Louisiana Geographic Education Alliance was founded in 1991 and is a member of the national network of state geographic alliances initiated by the National Geographic Society in 1986.

Currently 24 pre and in-service teachers are being trained to be the Next Generation of Teacher Consultants. Through the support of the Louisiana Board of Regents, this year long workshop is intended to reinvergorated LaGEA at the local parish level. Teacher created plans are available here.
