2008 National Geographic Bee

The National Geographic Bee is a nationwide contest for schools with any of the grades four through eight. It is an educational outreach program of the National Geographic Society. With a first-place prize of a $25,000 college scholarship--and other prizes in additional scholarships and cash--the Bee is designed to encourage the teaching and study of geography. Students from schools in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, the Pacific territories, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Department of Defense Dependents Schools take part in the Bee.

Principals of eligible schools must register their schools to participate. The Bee is a classroom and school-based competition. Principals may register by writing on school letterhead to National Geographic Bee, National Geographic Society, 1145 17th Street NW, Washington, DC 20036-4688, and including the $50 fee. Please send check or money order only--no purchase orders. The deadline for registering is October 15, 2003. Please check with the principal of your school to see if the school is already registered, as the fee is nonrefundable. Bee Line: 202-828-6659

Open to all registered schools;* registration ends October 15. Students must win school competition. Students must place in top 100 scores on Qualifying Test. Students must win state competition.

Prizes

*Students who are prior winners of National Geographic Bee first-, second-, or third-place college scholarships are ineligible, as are members of the immediate families of National Geographic Society employees.

**Students and their parents and relatives must not have obtained, have had in their possession, or have seen copies of the School-level Question Booklet or the Qualifying Test (with the exception of administering this test to the winning student). We reserve the right to disqualify students for this reason.
