4. Dr. Webb introduced the Deans of each college and asked each Dean to introduce Department Heads in their areas.
5. Dr. Webb shared Good Things Happening at NSU Leesville/Fort Polk.
a. Presented Janna Luckys NSU University Recruiting Calendar & Recruiting Brochure to the group. He expressed that the record enrollment was partly due to the very good job of recruitment of students.
b. NSU-Leesville/Fort Polk gains its independence! As of January, 2004, the university fulfilled its obligation to the United States Government and became the property of the State of Louisiana. We had been mortgaged to the U. S. Department of Education, which provided the funds to purchase this acreage 30 years ago. That debt is now paid.
c. $80,000.00 was received in timber sales. Some of that money has to be earmarked to use to continue a forestry management plan, some has been used to meet an emergency need, but some has been used and will continue to be used in accordance with a faculty-staff determined set of priorities.
d. Sewage treatment processing plant has been upgraded. Sometimes good results occur from poor beginnings. An order to comply, issued by DEQ, has led to a $17,000.00 upgrade to our sewage treatment plant. That may not sound like something to brag about, but it feels good to know you are in compliance.
e. French 1010 & 1020 is now offered on this campus for 1st time during Dr. Monks administration.
f. Cost of T-1 Line for NSU-Leesville has been reduced. This allows us to add another T-1 for better communication and technology.
g. An NSU-Leesville/Fort Polk Purple Shield Fund has been established to assist students with temporary financial need at this Campus. This fund is handled through the NSU Foundation.
h. Addition of a third Compressed Video classroom at NSU-Leesville/Fort Polk has been completed. This classroom has been furnished with a state of the art, touch screen computer/white board/theatre unit. It is truly awesome!
i. NSU-Leesville/Fort is expanding their nursing program. An energetic and highly qualified Lieutenant Colonel will be joining our ranks soon, allowing us to TRIPLE the number of nursing clinical students.
j. All of our computer labs have been upgraded.
· The Carl Perkins lab has new (and more) computers and a Sympodium.
· The English writing lab has new computers.
· The teaching lab has new equipment.
· Our wireless networking capabilities have been upgraded.
k. In spite of a war and a base reassignment, we have maintained our enrollment.
l. We have over 100 brand new entering freshmen at our first ever freshman connection.
m. We have replaced two air conditioners, ordered another to be replaced and are in the process of receiving bids for a fourth one.
n. We are in the process of writing specifications for repairing our sidewalks, eliminating our water problem and beautifying our buildings.
o. We re-carpeted Room 5.
p. We received Dr. David Steiners medical library as a donation.
q. We received 200+ beautifully purple chair/desk combinations.
r. Thanks to a grant from the Rapides Foundation, we have an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) on site. Linda Nichols has certified several faculty and staff members to operate the AED.
6. Dr. Webb discussed the new admissions criteria begins next fall and his concern for increase retention of students.
7. Dr. Scheffler reiterated the importance of student retention through academic advising improvement and recruiting. He discussed changes in enrollment requirements for this year and next year.
8. Scheffler announced that there was money available to every budget unit. He will meet for a short meeting with deans from each college after the meeting to explain the requirements. Deans will give the information to each department head.
