Faculty & Staff Meeting

Dr. Larry E. Monk, NSU-Leesville/Fort Polk’s Executive Director, opened the meeting.

2. = Recognitions & Congratulations:

= a. = E-mail received from Registrar’s Office indicating those instructors that we= re not keeping attendance. Monk = was happy to report that NSU-Leesville’s instructors had 100% compliance.= He thanked everyone for a very good job.

= b. Juanita Darby was nominated to represent Northwestern State University on the Merlot Project. This p= roject is an organization that creates, proofs and reviews all types of media for online types of learning environment. They have a huge volume of multi media ideas from K- College Level. =

= 3. = PRAXIS Test. Required for graduate and undergra= duate education students who are seeking Teacher Certification in Louisiana and several other states. The PRAXIS Test has replaced the National Teacher Exam (NTE). The new exemptions are allowed par= tly because the PRAXIS is so expensive.

= a. = EXEMPTION: An ACT Composite of at least 22 or= SAT combined verbal and math score of at least 1030 students do not have to take the PRAXIS.

= b. Students with a Master’s Degree seeking alternate certification are exempt from the first part of the PRAXIS. This applies only to the PRAXIS ONE (Reading/Writing & Arithmetic).

= 4. = Grounds work day tomorrow. We would appreciate any volunteers = to help with Fall pruning of our NSU-Leesville/Fort Polk Campus. Some of the things we hope to get accomplished are trimming of trees and hedges, and working in our flowerbeds. Th= ere will be a lot to do if you want to help.

= 5. = Military Appreciation Night. Saturday night, September 29^t=
h, is Military Appreciation Night at the Northwestern State<= /st1:PlaceType> University vs. Arka= nsas-Monticello Football Game. Soldiers and t= heir family members will be given free tickets to attend the game. The NSU President’s Box will= be full of dignitaries from NSU, the military, and area political representati= ves.

= 6. = Meeting with CG, GC, Skluzeck, Webb, Hanson, Cre= w, & Monk. Dr. Randal We= bb, Dr. Thomas Hanson, Mr. Robert Crew and Dr. Monk met Friday, September 22nd with BG Daniel P. Bolger, JRTC & Fort Polk’s Commanding General & COL David G. Sage, Garrison Commander & Roger Skluzacek, Education Services Officer. The meeting was extremely good. They are very interested in the relationship with the military and Northwestern State University. We are looking for ways to improve= our relationship. Recommendation = of offering courses that the military would like to see NSU-Leesville offer to= the soldiers were discussed. We w= ill make every attempt to implement suggestions brought up during this meeting.

As a result of this meetin= g a committee was appointed to develop, design and print a very impressive, glo= ssy NSU-Leesville/Fort Polk Brochure focusing on NSU-Leesville and how we take = care of the military students. Com= mittee members selected were Martha Koury, Fred Taulbee and Robert Triplett. Tommy Tilley, Joyce Barnes, and Da= na Brown volunteered to serve on the committee.

= 7. = Fall 2006 Enrollment. Registration for the Fall 2006 is = 460 at NSU-Leesville/Fort Polk. Disc= ussion continued on reasons for this semester’s low enrollment.

= 8. = Glen Cooley remarked how important it is to have someone at the front desk that is pleasant and inviting to anyone coming in= to get information or when answering the telephone.

= 9. = Dr. Kathleen Smith announced her book (chapter) sig= ning tomorrow in Natchitoches at The Book Merchant from 4:00pm-6:00pm.&n= bsp; The name of the book is “Reading Deadwood, A Western to Swear By”.

= 10. = Tommy Tilley announced that it is time to submit yo= ur grants for Student Tech Grants. Last year we received approval for several large grants. See Tommy for forms and additional information.

= 11. = Tommy thanked everyone for his or her generosity. His surgery is scheduled for Octob= er 11^th. He gave us an update.

= 12. = Meeting was adjourned at 1:00 p.m.
