FACULTY/STAFF SAFETY MEETING

Present:  Pamela Bailey, Joyce Barnes, John Byrd, Glen Cooley, Juanita Darby, Catherine Eaglin, Brenda Foote, Terry Isbell, Martha Koury, Pat Martinez, Judith McNeely, Dr. Larry Monk, Dr. Paralee Norman, Corinne Pearce, Dr. Marion Skiles, Tommy Tilley, Melba Wied, and Rhonda Wood.

 

Absent:  Hilda Brown (Clinicals), Deborah Hickman (Clinicals), Allison James, Brian McCarthy (Class), Joe Pope (Dr. Apt.), Dr. Kathleen Smith, Dr. Leeann Sticker, Bob Triplett (Dr. Apt.), Linda West, and Betty Westerchil.

 

NOTES:

 

  1. Dr. Monk distributed Revised Refund Policy post cards to everyone.  He read the directions from the Registrar that came with the post cards.

 

“During department registration please give each student one of these post cards on the revised refund policy along with the printout of their Spring 2005 Semester schedule.  Please refer the students to the Office of the Registrar if they have any questions regarding this policy.”

 

  1. New Refund Policy was discussed extensively.  The policy says that the student will be held liable for fees if they do not resign prior to class beginning.

 

  1. An Academic Advising Council has been set up basic training for SIS.  Anyone interested in training should contact Dr. Monk.

 

  1. NSU has to compete with The Frog Pond Apartments across the street.  Dr. Monk displayed pictures of the new NSU dorms built by Fall 2005.  They are 2 bedroom apartment style, share one bath, set up for cable and internet, and will be listed on student’s fee sheet.   

 

  1. Dr. Monk asked who will be in tomorrow to assist with registration.  Skiles- a.m. only, Darby, Martinez, and Monk.

 

  1. Non-recurring budget update.  We will not be getting any money because the money has been used for emergency compliance issues.

 

  1. Thanksgiving Dinner date.  Majority agreed on Thursday, November 18, 2005 at Catfish Junction in Leesville.  Dinner begins at 12:00 p.m and ends at 1:30 p.m.

 

  1. We are asking for your License Plate numbers so that we can identify faculty and staff cars on this campus.  Please submit your plate numbers to Catherine before leaving the meeting.

 

  1. Safety meeting on Mock Fire Drills.    Please do not forget to sign the Safety Meeting Attendance Roll.  There is a Mock Fire Drill Quiz you must complete and return to Catherine.  Be aware that we will be having a fire drill soon.  Review the updated evacuation plans displayed in your building.  Your Safe Haven (meeting place) is the front parking lot of the Chester Creighton Owen Building.    

 

  1. Monk reminded everyone that faculty cannot call classes, classes are to remain the entire time, and attendance should be taken and reported on line.  This reminder comes from the Provost and President.

 

  1.  Veteran’s Cemetery update.  We were misinformed about funds for the Veteran’s Cemetery Project.  Money has not been confirmed.  Project is on hold until funds are confirmed.

 

  1.  Northwestern is considering a new pay scale for adjuncts.  Monk serves on a committee to study new pay scale.  Equal pay is not across the board. 

 

  1.  Northwestern’s Distance Learning Program is being reviewed.

  1. Terry Isbell announced that most of the on line classes are closed.  All on line psychology, except some of the 1010, classes are closed.  Students may be placed on a waiting list but priority is starts with graduating senior.  The Zoology class on line is strictly for on line students.  They will be monitoring the on line classes and if a student does not belong in the Zoology class the student will be dropped.

 

  1. Cooley shared the comment he received stating how friendly everyone at NSU-Leesville to the students.

 

  1.  Koury said that all Summer classes will be due November 17, and all Fall classes will be due after Thanksgiving Break.

 

  1.   Joyce will be purchasing and baking Turkey and Ham for the Annual NSU-Leesville/Fort Polk Thanksgiving Dinner.  Please help with the purchase of the meat for Thanksgiving.  Turn in your donations to Joyce Barnes.

 

  1. Everyone will be required to take the Defensive Driving Course scheduled for Monday, November 15th at 1:00 p.m. in room 107.  If you plan to use the university car or your own car and charge travel to the university you must take this course.
