FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State University’s Office of Electronic and Continuing Education will offer an AAPC Certification Exam Prep Course in Shreveport beginning Monday, Jan. 14.
Classes will be held from 6-9 p.m. on Mondays through May 12. The fee is $800 plus the cost of books, approximately $335. The class will be held at the NSU Nursing Education Center in Shreveport. Lynn Kimsey, CPC, will be the instructor.
The course is designed to help participants prepare for and pass the exam to become a Certified Professional Coder, a fast growing field in the medical community. Opportunities for certified coders are greater and pay is higher. The American Academy of Professional Coders is one of the largest organizations of professional coders and offers the Professional Coding Curriculum course for uncertified medical coders. Included in the course are CPT procedure coding, ICD-9-CM diagnosis coding and use of HCPCS Level II coders for suppliers, drugs and biologicals.
The 18-week course will give the student a comprehensive look at coding and its role in billing, revenue management and accounts receivable management. The course will explore how to code from a chart and how payers pay for these services. It will also show how to use the Documentation Guidelines for proper payment and auditing. Books are required for the course.
For more information or to register for a class, call the NSU Office of Electronic and Continuing Education at (318) 357-6355 or (800) 376-2422.
