FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NATCHITOCHES The cast of Death by Disco is too young to remember the dance music of the 70's first hand. That doesn't mean they can't enjoy poking fun at the music and fashion of the era.

The Northwestern Summer Dinner Theatre will present Death by Disco July 13-16, 20-23 and 27-30 in the A.A. Fredericks Auditorium. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $20, which includes dinner and the show. Scott Burrell is the director.

The show is a 1970's dance party murder mystery in which the audience solves the crime while enjoying a four-course dinner. The meal is served at your table by the cast who all the while are providing clues to help you solve the evening's crime. Members of the audience receive bribe money to entice the "suspects" to provide you with better clues along with a clue dossier which contains riddles and puzzles you will need to decipher to be eligible for a "Super Sleuth" prize.

"This is great comedy. So much of it can be played up or overdone," said cast member Kyle Accord, who plays Theresa Maria Garcia. "We continue to find a lot of new stuff in the play at every rehearsal. One thing that makes the show so good is that after each act we go out and serve the audience. There is a lot of audience participation and we single out someone to give them a hard time.

Accord said her character is part of the conflict in the play. Six people show up for the World Disco Championship to be named the Disco King and Disco Queen. The defending Disco King doesn't want to dance with his partner, so he brings Theresa Maria and there is a conflict with the old partner.

Accord, a junior theatre major from Chesterfield, Mo., learned about NSU for the first time when she attended the Missouri Thespian Conference as a senior in high school.

"Some of the faculty from Northwestern were there. They had a display and I saw it and said 'That was where Steel Magnolias was filmed,'" said Accord. "Once I started talking to them, I learned about what was available at Northwestern."

Accord has appeared in the musicals Medea, Oedipus Rox and Godspell in her first year at NSU.

"I have always done shows. My father knew someone with a performing arts studio, so I have been performing since second grade," said Accord. "I have always enjoyed performing and being able to evoke emotions from people.

"I want to do more than musicals but I like to sing and dance and will always have a special place in my heart for musicals."
