NATCHITOCHES-Eight computer information systems students from Northwestern State University placed in competition at the Association of Information Technology Professionals Regional Student Conference held recently in San Antonio.

Three teams from NSU placed in the COBOL competition. The team of Nick Hammonds of Goldonna and Curtis Penrod of Vowells Wills placed second. Barbara Baillie of Anacoco and Rick Harper of Logansport were fourth while Felicia Bray of Norfolk, Va. and R.L. Johnson of Lumsden, Saskatchewan, Canada were sixth. A total of 35 teams competed. In the network implementation contest, the team of Johnathan Sexton of Fort Polk and Jared Phillips of Monroe placed fourth.

Other computer informations systems students attending were: Josh Spillers of Minden, Roger Allen of New Orleans, Kelli Ellis of Morgan City, Julie Bates of Provencal, Erick Beechum of Deberry, Texas and Jeremy Wilmot of Zwolle. Also attending were: Derick Louis of Baton Rouge, Daniel Abraham of Many, Dare' Taylor and Terrance Morgan of Shreveport, Viral Patel of Natchitoches, Chris Gregory of Bossier City, Erin Ponville of Franklin, Billy Bowie of Thompson Station, Tenn., Dennis Watkins of Killeen, Texas and Cheri Cowell of Houston.

Faculty members Dr. Jack Russell, Dr. Lissa Pollacia and David Zolzer also attended.

Thirty-one colleges and universities from the Region 3 six-state area were present. The six states in Region 3 are: Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas and New Mexico. Northwestern students have placed in 23 of the 29 programming contests they have taken part in over the last four years.
