NATCHITOCHES- For the second consecutive year, a team from Northwestern State University was the best in the nation in system analysis. The team of Michael Callac of Slidell and Xiao Chen of Shanghai, China, captured first place at the Seventh Association of Information Technology Professionals National Collegiate Conference held in Kansas City.

NSU finished second in two categories and placed in six categories, earning more awards than any other university at the conference.

Callac and Chen also placed second in Web application. Kirsten Allen of Winnfield and Dennis Watkins of Killeen, Texas were second in spirit banner competition. Three teams placed in COBOL. Callac and Lily Kusljic of Banjalaka, Bosnia, placed fourth Julie Bates of Natchitoches and Joseph Kiely of Natchitoches were seventh and Johnathan Sexton of Fort Polk and Rusty Teague of Natchitoches placed ninth.

Other students attending were Tan Vo of New Orleans, Johnny Byone of Cloutierville, Erick Beechum of DeBerry, Texas, Trey Staley of Minden, Kelly Ellis of Berwick, Roger Allen of New Orleans, Taytheria Lane of Campti, Daniel Abraham, Donta Wright and Mathieu Ferracci of Natchitoches. NSU faculty members Dr. Jack Russell, Barbara Russell and David Zolzer accompanied the students.

More than 800 participants from 98 colleges and universities from around the country took part in the conference

Several local businesses and organizations assisted the students as they raised funds to help them attend the conference. Amomg those providing support were: Trus Joist, City Bank & Trust, Campus Corner, Inc., Champion Home Center, Karen's Siding Co., C. Rodney Harrington, and Phi Beta Lambda.
