NATCHITOCHES -Two members of the Psi Psi chapter of Alpha Sigma Alpha at Northwestern State University have received two of the national organization's top honors.
Kimberly Bayma of Lafayette received the Elizabeth Bird Small Award, and Jill Skaggs of Bossier City was presented with the Frost Fidelity Award.
Bayma is one of two recipients who were selected from more than 5,000 collegiate members from across the country to receive this award. The award recognizes high scholarship, personality and outstanding leadership within the collegiate chapter and on campus. It is the highest honor the sorority can bestow on an undergraduate member.
A senior, Bayma has held several offices in her Alpha Sigma Alpha chapter and on campus. She served her chapter as nominating committee chairman, parliamentarian, Panhellenic delegate, standards board secretary and vice president of programming and ritual. On campus, Bayma was involved in the Alpha Lambda Delta Freshman Honor Society, NSU Student Activities Board, Blue Key International, Order of Omega, Rho Lambda, NSU emerging leaders and the NSU Student Government Association.
Bayma has been the recipient of many scholarships and her past honors have included Order of Omega Scholarship, Student Activities Board Residential Representative of the Year, the Lucile Hendricks Panhellenic Scholarship and the Lois V. Beers Scholarship from the Alpha Sigma Alpha Foundation. She has been involved in several philanthropic events on her campus and in the Natchitoches community. Bayma has been involved with the American Cancer Society Relay for Life and has been a volunteer for the Boys & Girls club of Natchitoches and the Cane River Girls Home.
Skaggs was selected from more than 5,000 collegiate members from across the country to receive this award. The award recognizes intangible fraternity values, including exceptional loyalty and service.
A junior, Skaggs has held the office of vice president of public relations and recruitment for her chapter. She also served as the chapter's fundraising chairman, standards board member, Greek Week chairman, recruitment team captain, finance committee member and social committee member. On campus, Skaggs has been involved with the Public Relations Student Society of America, president of Order of Omega, freshman orientation leader and member of the Demon Heat Color Guard. Skaggs' past honors include the Girl Scout Gold Award and the Thomas Whitehead Sophomore Scholarship Award in Journalism and Public Relations. She has been a President's List and Dean's List student.
Alpha Sigma Alpha was founded at Longwood University in Farmville, Va., in 1901 and has 73 collegiate chapters and 71 alumnae chapters. More than 67,000 members are committed to promoting sisterhood, heritage and leadership.
