FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NATCHITOCHES - Northwestern State University police have made 12 arrests in connection with alleged fraternity hazing incidents, according to NSU Police Detective Doug Prescott.
Those arrested were Terence Vinson, 24, Felton Beaner, 22, and Brent Bailey, 21, all of Shreveport, Davey Davis, 22 of Jonesboro, Carlos Hartwell, 18 of Natchez and Devon Lockett, 22 of Franklin. Also arrested were Traymain Madison, 24, Derrick Addison, 22, Reginald Harrold, 22, and Brian Williams, 23, all of Natchitoches and Albert Jones, Jr. 21 and James Duplessis, 21 of New Orleans.
Each was charged with simple battery, aggravated battery and hazing. All were released on $2,000 bond.
Prescott said the university received complaints this week that a new member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity had been beaten in apparent initiation ceremonies Feb. 2 and 9 at two off-campus locations.
Prescott said injuries to the student, who has resigned from the university, did not appear to be serious and consisted of bruises to his upper body. The student was not hospitalized.
Student Affairs officials at Northwestern have met with the individual who said he was a victim of fraternity hazing, and they are working with NSU Police in the investigation.
Assistant Director of Student Activities and Organizations Luke Dowden said the university has suspended the fraternity pending the completion of the investigation.
Prescott said the chapter is cooperating in the investigation.
