FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NATCHITOCHES Two Northwestern State University students have received national honors from Alpha Sigma Alpha.

Stephanie LeRay received Alpha Sigma Alpha's Frost Fidelity Award. Candace Detillier received Alpha Sigma Alpha's Outstanding New Member Award.

LeRay, a senior from Thibodaux, was selected from more than 5,000 members to receive the award, which recognizes intangible fraternity values including exceptional loyalty and service. While a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha at Northwestern, LeRay has served as the chapter's president, vice president of public relations and recruitment, scholarship chairman and membership selection committee chairman.

She has also been a member of the Spirit of Northwestern Marching Band, Phi Alpha Theta Honor Society and the club lacrosse team. LeRay has also been president of Order of Omega and an orientation leader. She has also been an Honor Roll student, Greek 101 facilitator and recipient of the Presidential Honors Scholarship.

Detillier was chosen from more than 3,000 members to receive the award. The Outstanding New Member Award recognizes a new member's spirit and attitude during her first year of membership, her willingness to take on responsibilities within the chapter, evidence of growth and maturity, ability to work with other members of the chapter and potential for taking leadership roles in the chapter, college and community.

A May 2005 graduate of NSU from Metairie, Detillier held the offices of philanthropy chairman, public relations chairman and communications chairman within the chapter. She has also served as recruitment team captain, alternate Panhellenic delegate and a member of the membership selection committee.

Detillier has also been president of Blue Key International Honor Society, treasurer of Sigma Tau Delta English Honor Society and a member of the Gavel Club and University Residential Life Committee.

Alpha Sigma Alpha was founded at Longwood University in Farmville, Va., in 1901. Alpha Sigma Alpha has 72 collegiate chapters and 66 alumnae chapters around the country with more than 57,000 members committed to promoting sisterhood, heritage and leadership.
