FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NATCHITOCHES- Addiction counseling professionals in Louisiana will have access to more training in the coming months under a grant awarded to The Louisiana Addiction Technology Transfer Center Coordinating Center at Northwestern State University. LAATTCCC@NSU has received a grant of $271,000 from the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals Office of Addictive Disorders.

The LAATTCCC@NSU is under the direction of Dr. Patrice Moulton and Joseph D. "Jody" Biscoe.

Two initiatives will be started under the grant, according to Biscoe. The first is clinical supervision for professionals using the "training of trainers" model. Sixty professionals will undergo specialized training. Fourteen members of that group will be selected to receive more intensive training. These individuals will go throughout the state and work with fellow addiction counseling professionals.

Biscoe said the second initiative will support the infrastructure of the Office of Addictive Disorders in the area of training, education and research.

He credited Mike Duffy, assistant secretary for the Office of Addictive Disorders, with seeing the need for addiction counseling professionals to receive more training.

"Mr. Duffy has taken the initiative of allowing Northwestern to facilitate this role throughout the state," said Biscoe. "His creativity and vision will lead to more individuals receiving quality care."
