FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NATCHITOCHES - A scholarship to benefit a student a Northwestern State University student affiliated with the Baptist church has been established through the Louisiana Baptist Foundation.

The T.M. and Emma Bailey Scholarship will be awarded in the amount of $1,200 per year to a recipient selected by the NSU Foundation. First preference will be given to a student affiliated with the Baptist church.

The endowed scholarship was established by Rev. Doyle and Barbara Bailey of Natchitoches to honor Rev. Bailey's parents.

"We did this because my parents made such a sacrifice to get me through school, particularly since I was going into the ministry," Rev. Bailey said.

Rev. Bailey said he hoped the recipient would be a student concerned about other people and not just upward mobility.

"We would like the student to be serious about higher education and one who wants to make a difference in society," he said.

Rev. and Mrs. Bailey previously established the Doyle and Barbara Bailey Family Scholarship for a Baptist student and the Armand and Docia Lestage LaCour Scholarship for nursing at Northwestern.

"As for the quality of students who were selected for the other scholarships, we have been very pleased with the recipients," he said.

"The Rev. and Mrs. Bailey have demonstrated an ongoing commitment to education and to encouraging today's young adults to be morally and socially conscious," said Dr. Chris Maggio, NSU director of Alumni and Development. "This scholarship is one way to encourage a student to not only to strive to achieve academically, but also offer service to help others."
