NATCHITOCHES - Seventeen Northwestern State alumni will be inducted into the NSU College of Business Hall of Distinction. The induction will be part of Homecoming activities Saturday, Oct. 30.

Those being honored are Guy Barr and Malcolm Maddox of Monroe, Fred Clark, Carl Jones, Rep. Jimmy D. Long Sr. and Charles Whitehead Jr. of Natchitoches, Christopher Craighead of Calhoun, Dorothy DeKeyzer of New Iberia, Roy W. James of Benton, Robert F. Kelley of Chicago, Marshall Hebert, William D. McKellar, Jimmy Patterson and Tommy Seabaugh of Shreveport, Lawrence Nugent Jr. of Pineville, Aubrey T. Temple Jr. of DeRidder and Lela Mae Wilkes of Pride.

Barr is Mid-South regional vice president for State Farm Insurance. He received a master's degree from Northwestern. Barr was a teacher for seven years before joining State Farm as an agent in 1974.

Clark earned a bachelor's and master's degree at Northwestern. He was executive vice president of Commercial Band and Trust Co. of Franklin from 1977 until 1988 and president and chief executive officer of Sterling Sugars, Inc., of Franklin for five years. He has been an associate professor of accounting and executive in residence at Northwestern. Clark is on a leave of absence from NSU while he serves as chairman of the Louisiana Parole Board.

Craighead received a bachelor's degree at NSU in business administration and economics. He has been in the banking industry since 1985 and has been president and chief executive officer of Forest Craft Federal Credit Union since 1992.

A graduate in business education, DeKeyzer headed the business department at St. Joseph High School in Jeanerette until retiring. She and her husband, Robert, founded hoh-PAK, Ltd., an analytical laboratory and marketing company in 1979. DeKeyzer was elected company president in 1995.

Hebert is owner of Hebert's Town and Country Chrysler Jeep in Shreveport. He has been in the automobile business since 1964. Hebert became a Chrysler Plymouth dealer in 1980 and later bought the Chrysler Jeep franchise. He represents Louisiana dealers on the National Automobile Dealers Association Board of Directors.

James, a certified public accountant, earned a bachelor's degree in accounting at NSU. He is also an accredited financial examiner and earned the Certificate of Mastery in Reengineering earlier this year. He is a co-founder and partner of the accounting firm of James & Hardy, CPAs in Shreveport.

Jones is vice president for business affairs and controller at NSU, a position he has held since 1996. He earned a bachelor's and master's degree at Northwestern. Jones was fiscal officer and controller at NSU for eight years and controller at Nicholls State University for two years.

A native of Winnfield, Kelley was a partner with Andersen Worldwide for 24 years. He was a managing partner for practice services, marketing and international affairs. In his tenure, Kelley initiated the company's international affairs program. Kelley received a bachelor's degree at NSU. He was inducted into the NSU Hall of Distinction, the Long Purple Line, in 1998.

Long is the dean of the Louisiana House of Representatives, now serving his eighth term. An NSU alumnus, Long has been a successful grocer and cattle farmer. He is one of Louisiana's leading experts in education, serving for many years as chairman of the House Education Committee. Long was instrumental in the establishment of the Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts in Natchitoches.

McKellar is executive vice president and chief financial officer of Kilpatrick Life Insurance Company. He earned a bachelor's degree at Northwestern and lettered in basketball for two years. McKellar has also worked as president of Central American Life Insurance Company, chief financial officer of Deposit Trust Savings Bank and supervising senior accountant with Peat, Marwick, Mitchell and Company.

A native of Homer, Maddox received a bachelor's degree in business at Northwestern. He is area president/Northeast region for Hibernia National Bank. Maddox, a resident of Monroe, was president of First National Bank of West Monroe and People's Homestead Federal Bank for Savings. Maddox was also executive vice president and chief operating officer of East Texas Savings and Loan and vice president of The First National Bank of Shreveport.

Nugent has worked for BellSouth Telecommunications for 26 years. He is the company's regional director for corporate and external affairs in Alexandria. Nugent is a graduate of Northwestern where he was an All-Conference football player. He also did additional graduate work at Northwestern.

Patterson was founder, chairman of the board and chief executive officer of the Patterson Insurance Group, a company he ran for 30 years. He is president of Siblings Financial, LLC. Patterson received a bachelor's degree from Northwestern in business administration and accounting. He has also served on the Louisiana Insurance Guaranty Association and the Louisiana Insurance Rating Commission. Patterson is a member of the NSU President's Council and served on the NSU Foundation and Athletic Association Board of Directors.

A Northwestern graduate, Seabaugh has worked for State Farm Insurance for 34 years. His current position is management in operations. Seabaugh serves on the National Ethics Committee for The Society of Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriters and is president of the Shreveport chapter of CPCU.

Temple earned a bachelor's degree in business administration and has been in the insurance business since 1972. He helped form Gulf Universal Holdings which was a company with 500 employees with $250,000,000 in annual sales when it was sold in 1997. Later that year, he formed the Temple Group which was merged with the Insurance Center to form ICT Group, LLC. Temple has served as chairman of the board of the Louisiana Workers' Compensation Corporation since its inception in 1992. He is also chairman of the board of the Sabine River Authority and the State Employee Group Benefits Program.

Whitehead has been a Natchitoches attorney since 1966. He is a graduate of Northwestern. Whitehead was a assistant district attorney in Natchitoches Parish for three years and was president of the Natchitoches Parish Bar Association. He has also served as chairman of the Natchitoches Planning and Zoning Commission and as a member of the Natchitoches Parish Hospital Board of Commissioners.

Wilkes is president of Brown-Eagle Group, a 400-employee company that does product handling, packaging and warehousing for the chemical industry. She earned a bachelor's degree at NSU. Wilkes has worked at Brown-Eagle since 1977 as controller/treasurer, vice president and as president since 1989. She worked for Ethyl Corporation for five years as an accountant.
