FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NATCHITOCHES - The Business Leaders Endowed Professorship has been created in the College of Business at Northwestern State University. The professorship was funded by donations totaling $60,000 from a variety of businesses and individuals concerned with the growth and development of NSU's business program.

Ten businesses and 20 individuals contributed gifts to create the professorship. The $60,000 will be matched with an additional $40,000 from the Board of Regents Support Fund. This is the first professorship at NSU created through a series of individual gifts.

A portion of the interest generated by the endowment each year would be used to fund classroom instruction, faculty research, purchase needed software and hardware and cover needed travel to professional conferences. Another portion would be used to build up the endowment.

"I am grateful to all the businesses and individuals who helped create this professorship," said Dr. Carroll D. Aby Jr., dean of the College of Business at Northwestern. "It is becoming increasingly difficult to attract and retain outstanding faculty without incentives such as endowed professorships."

Those contributing to create the professorship were: First Bank of Natchitoches, People's State Bank, State Farm Companies, Mr. and Mrs. H.J. (Shawn) Daily, Exchange Bank and Trust, Jack W. Eversull, Karl and Linda Moore, Mike R. Murphy, Fred Clark, First Federal Savings and Loan, Bank One and Doyle Williams.

Also helping to create the professorship were: Michael Brown, James Palko, American Express Financial Advisors, Willamette Industries, Trus Joist MacMillan, TransLa, A.T. and Nanette Martinez in memory of Brooke Hennigan, Dot DeKeyzer, Nolton Causey, Charlie Whitehead Jr., Barry and Martha Kay Smiley, David Stamey, Joseph Stamey and Tony Gustwick.

Aby said the holder of the endowed professorship will be closely involved with the public and the business community on topics of common interest.
