NATCHITOCHES-Casey Crowder, the reigning Miss Louisiana, will be featured speaker at Northwestern State University's Fall Commencement Exercises Friday, Dec. 20.

Crowder is a 2001 honor graduate of Northwestern, earning a bachelor's degree in business administration. She is working toward a master's degree in business administration at the University of Louisiana at Monroe. Crowder is a pharmaceutical representative for Eli Lilly & Company.

"Casey is an outstanding representative for the state of Louisiana and Northwestern and we are pleased that she will be able to speak to our graduates," said NSU President Dr. Randall J. Webb. "She is an example of what can be accomplished through determination and hard work. Casey also lets our graduates know that a young person is capable of taking a leadership role and having a positive impact on others."

As Miss Louisiana, Crowder is helping focus attention and resources toward the mental health awareness. She has a deep and personal interest in the area of mental health including Alzheimer's Disease. In her role as Miss Louisiana, Crowder is "The Official Hostess for the State of Louisiana," a title bestowed upon her by the Louisiana Legislature. She is also the spokesperson for the Louisiana Governor's Council on Physical Fitness.

As spokesperson for Louisiana Cares for Children, Crowder presents a motivational program available to schools that encourages believing in one's self, making the right choices, and abstaining from alcohol, tobacco products, and illegal drug abuse.

While at Northwestern, Crowder was a student leader. She was a member of Phi Mu Fraternity, Purple Jackets and Order of Omega. Crowder was also a member of the Purple Pizazz Pom Pon Line and was active in the Student Government Association.
