NATCHITOCHES -The Mrs. H.D. Dear Sr. and Alice E. Dear School of Creative and Performing Arts at Northwestern State University will present its annual Christmas Gala Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. in the A.A. Fredericks Auditorium. Tickets are $5. NSU students are admitted free. Scott Burrell is the production coordinator.
The Gala will include performances by the Natchitoches Northwestern Orchestra conducted by Dr. Douglas Bakenhus, the Northwestern University Choir conducted by Dr. Burt Allen, the NSU Dance Program directed by Susan Hussey, the NSU Demon Dazzlers directed by Abraham Anthony and the NSU Jazz Orchestra directed by Galindo Rodriguez.
Also featured at the Gala will be the Northwestern Harp Ensemble directed by Shirley Jennings, the Out on A Limb Improv Troupe directed by Burrell, the Northwestern Dance Program Rockettes directed by Barry Stoneking, the Northwestern Musical Theatre directed by Perry Morgan and the NSU Percussion Ensemble directed by Kenneth Green.
A special part of the Gala will be the premiere of the original work "Bayou Postcard" by Dr. Roger Chandler and Burrell and featuring Jarrad Baker, Kendall Judy, Scott Springmann and Elizabeth Bigger.
The Symphony Orchestra will perform "The March" and
"Trepak" from Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker Suite."
The orchestra will combine with the University Choir to perform
"Oh Come, All Ye Faithful" arranged by John Rutter and
with the Dance Program to present Leon Jessell's "March of
the Wooden Soldiers." The orchestra will perform with the
Out on A Limb Improv Troupe on "Twas the Night Before Christmas"
written by Clement Moore with music by Randol Alan Bass.
The Demon Dazzlers will perform "Baby It's Cold Outside" by Jessica Simpson while the Northwestern Musical Theatre will present "A Mall and the Night Visitors" or "12 Days Till Christmas" from "She Loves Me" with book by Joe Masteroff, music by Jerry Bock and lyrics by Sheldon Harnick.
"Jingle Bells Parade" arranged by Carlos Chico Ortiz will be played by the NSU Jazz Orchestra. The Northwestern Dance Program Rockettes will perform to "Santa Baby" by Madonna and the NSU Percussion Ensemble will play "Short Circuits" by Lalo Davila.
The Northwestern University Choir will sing "Glory to God in the Highest" by Randall Thompson and "Hallelujah Chorus" from Handel's "Messiah." The Choir will also accompany the Northwestern Dance Program on "My Lord, What a Mornin'" by Harry T. Burleigh.
