FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NATCHITOCHES-The Northwestern Chamber Choir will hold its fall concert Monday, Oct. 25 at 7:30 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall. Admission is free and open to the public. The choir will be conducted by Dr. Burt Allen, director of choral music at NSU. Christine Allen is the accompanist.

The choir will perform "Ave Verum Corpus" by William Byrd, "Te Deum" by Mozart, "Drei Quartette Opus 31" by Johannes Brahms, "Upon Your Heart" by Eleanor Daley and "Be Thou My Vision" by Bob Chilcott.

Also on the program are "Londonderry Air" arranged by Chilcott, "Oh No John" arranged by Louis Halsey, "Noche de Lluvia" from "Canciones por las Americas" by Sid Robinovitch, "El Vito" by Mack Wilberg and "I'll Build a Stairway to Paradise" by George Gershwin and arranged by R. Page. Elena Bogaczova will also accompany the choir on "El Vito."

"The program goes from the Renaissance to near the Jazz Age," said Allen. "We will perform a set by Brahms from the romantic period that deals with love. One work deals with two couples at a dance, another is a back and forth bit of word play between a man and a woman. The third is about a man walking through the woods fearing that his love will not be there when he arrives."

Allen said "Noche de Lluvia" and "El Vito" will also be enjoyable.

"The first of the two, 'Noche de Lluvia,' is an Argentine tango while 'El Vito' is a lively Latin composition," he said.

The 36-voice Chamber Choir is a highly auditioned group. They will also perform in November in Baton Rouge at the Louisiana Music Educators Conference which also includes a perfoirmance by the Louisiana All-State Choir. The Chamber Choir will perform the annual "Lessons and Carols" program in December in Natchitoches and Alexandria. In April, the choir will perform with the Shreveport Symphony.
