FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NATCHITOCHES -The NSU Chamber Choir will present a concert Monday, Oct. 23 at 7:30 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall. Admission is free and open to the public. Director of Choral Activities Dr. Burt Allen is the conductor.
The choir will perform two madrigals, Rest Sweet Nymphs by Francis Pilkington and Il est bel et bon, Domine ad Adjuvandum Me Festival by G.B. Martini featuring soprano Whitney Sanders of Covington, alto Kristian Gorr of Houma, tenor Steven Sparkman of Elkhart Texas, and bass Tony Stewart of Houma.
Allen said the madrigals are light pieces written for singing
at secular gatherings. They were often sung for after dinner entertainment.
Also on the program are Prayers from The Ark by Ivor Davies
featuring soprano D'Nissa Adams of Amarillo, Texas. This work
consists of prayers uttered by six travelers on Noah's Ark, Noah,
a little bird, a cat, a mouse, a raven and a dove.
"Noah expresses frustration at the considerable time he spends surrounded by animals," said Allen. "Each of the animals has their own fears, however the raven enjoys the destruction. This work has some challenges because it has a considerable amount of free rhythm. It is a nice work."
The choir will perform Na Nie by Brahms, and three American works, Dear Companion, Wade in the Water arranged by Moses Hogan featuring Gorr and Home on The Range arranged by Allen. The Chamber Choir will conclude its performance Stephen Foster's Camptown Races arranged by John Halloran.
Dr. Christine Allen is the accompanist.
