NATCHITOCHES- Three Northwestern State University chemistry students delivered presentations on their undergraduate research projects at the 14th annual American Chemical Society's Undergraduate Research Symposium at Baylor University in Waco, Texas recently.

Seven students from NSU's student affiliate organization attended the symposium.

Rodney Feazell, as senior from Montgomery, presented "New Pyridyl Phosphines," on the research that he carried out with Dr. Kevin Klaysmeyer of Baylor University while participating in their Research Experiences for Undergraduates Program last summer.

Jeremy Henriques, a junior in the Louisiana Scholars' College from Ruston, presented "Alkyl Thio Schiff Base Complexes of Transition Metals and Main Group Elements," based on his research carried out with Dr. Martin Rudd, assistant professor of chemistry at NSU. The research was funded by the NSU CURIA.

Brooke Sledge, a junior from Magnolia, Ark., presented "BODA Monomers as Intermediates in the Bergman Cyclization," that focused on her research activities at Clemson Univeristy in S.C. Sledge won second place for her presentation in a competition involving undergraduates from Texas A & M, Rice, Baylor and Abilene Christian universities.

Rudd, who also serves as the ACS chapter advisor, delivered the invited symposium lecture after a banquet dinner on the expeditions and climbing trips in which he a Dr. Gillian Rudd have taken part in the Northwest Territories and Canada and the Caucasus Mountains.
