NATCHITOCHES - Northwestern State University's Concert Choir and Chamber Choir will perform Monday, April 2 at 7:30 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall. Admission is free and open to the public. NSU Director of Choral Activities Dr. Burt Allen will conduct the choirs. Cory Candler will accompany the Concert Choir and Christine Burczyk Allen will accompany the Chamber Choir.
The Concert Choir will perform "Magnificat" by Dietrich Buxtehude featuring soprano Melanie Thompson, alto Sara Melanson, tenor Bruston Manuel, bass Glenn Rainey, Manshan Yang and Mary Crawford on violin, Kimberly Jones on viola, Richard Rose on cello and Candler. Also on the Concert Choir's program are "Like as an Hart Desireth the Waterbrooks" by Herbert Howells and "Blessed Be the Name of the Lord" by Dale Grotehuis.
The Chamber Choir will begin its program with Mozart's "Regina Coeli," featuring soprano Wendy Grissom, alto Mary Dykes, tenor James Palmer and bass Kenneth Scattergood. The Chamber Choir will also perform "Abschied vom Walde (Departure)" by Filix Mendelssohn, "Who Is She Ascends So High" by Kirke Mechem, "Contre Qui Rose" from "Les Chansons des Roses" by Morten Lauridsen and "Canticle of Praise" by John Ness Beck.
The combined choirs will perform "Make Our Garden Grow" from "Candide" by Leonard Bernstein.
