FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NATCHITOCHES - The Louisiana Creole Heritage Center at Northwestern State University has received a grant of $25,000 from the National Park Service to support a project, "The Creole Chronicles."

According to Janet Colson, assistant director of the Louisiana Creole Heritage Center, "The Creole Chronicles" will consist of six booklets of historical, narrative and photographic accounts of various Creole communities located within and with connections to the state of Louisiana. Each booklet will focus on a particular community.

The purpose of the booklets will be to portray the history of the featured community, as well as its past and present traditions. Colson said the booklets will also portray the vastness of Creole life, from isolated communities or towns to those within larger urban areas as well as their shared characteristics. This initiative will provide a basis for the development and dissemination of information not currently available regarding the Creole culture of Louisiana.

According to Colson, the Creole Heritage Center is an appropriate group to perform this study due to its ongoing research and present work involving publications of the Creole culture and heritage.
