NATCHITOCHES- Eun Joo Chung, the winner of the 2002 World Piano Competition, will perform a recital at Northwestern State University Friday, Nov. 15 at 7:30 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall. The concert is part of the Louisiana Piano International Series. Admission is $10 and free for all students in Louisiana elementary and secondary schools as well as colleges and universities.
Chung is a native of Seoul, South Korea. She began her musical studies at age four, advancing to study at Eastman School of Music, Hochschule fur Musik, Darstellende Kunst in Vienna, and at the Moscow Conservatory of Music.
In her career, Chung has performed in New York, Chicago, Vienna, Athens, Milan, Warsaw, Barcelona, Tel Aviv, Berlin and Hong Kong. She has studied with David Burge, Bela Siki, Sergei Dorensky, and Paul Badura-Skoda.
Chung has performed with the Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra, Fort Worth Chamber Orchestra, Moldova Philharmonic Orchestra, Rzesow Philharmonic Orchestra, Turin Philharmonic Orchestra, Berlin Symphony Orchestra, and Dortmund Philharmonic Orchestra.
Her recent competition prizes include first prize at the Viotti International Piano Competition in Italy, second prize at the Maria Callas Grand Prix and second prize at the Schubert International Piano Competition in Germany. Chung's compact disc with the Preiser Records (Austria) was released in 1994.
The Louisiana Piano Series International will also include Igor Lebedev of Russia on January 31, 2003 and Joseph Banowetz of the University of North Texas on March 28.
