NATCHITOCHES-Classes on medical coding, play therapy and Microsoft Word will be offered through Northwestern State University's Division of Continuing Education beginning Tuesday, July 16.
The medical coding class is entry level and will be taught on Tuesdays and Thursdays in Room 224 of Russell Hall. Class time is from 6:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. There is a fee of $600 for the class. Jean Rachal is the instructor.
The course is designed to prepare the student to enter the medical coding field at any entry level position such as working in the front office of a clinic or physician's office. Further study is recommended for those wishing to enter directly into a position with coding as a primary duty.
"Play Therapy: Bringing it Down to Size" will be taught at England Airpark in Alexandria on July 16, 18, 23 and 25 from 1 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. The fee for the class is $40. Faith Teel is the instructor.
The course will be a theory-based workshop that will be taught through lecture and experiential methods. Participants will develop a basic understanding of the use of play therapy as a therapeutic tool when working with children.
"Introduction to Microsoft Word" will be presented on July 16 and 19 and Aug. 13 and 15. Rhonda F. Stewart is the instructor. The fee for the class is $55.
In the class, participants will learn basic computer skills which include how to use a mouse, opening files, saving files and shutting the computer down. The course will also teach users how to retrieve documents and exit a file. Students will also learn what a taskbar is and how to use a disk.
