FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NATCHITOCHES- Dr. Joseph Colavito, head of the Department of Language and Communication at Northwestern State University has been named to the State Diploma Enhancement Task Force by State Superintendent of Education Cecil J. Picard.
The task force includes higher education faculty along with business and industry leaders from across Louisiana.
"I have always aspired to work with a group of people committed to improving education," said Colavito. "Hopefully, this task force will set up bridges between high schools and colleges and build partnerships based on the mutual flow of information."
Based on the recommendations of the Secondary School Redesign Commission, the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education is considering the implementation of academic and career/technical enhancements to the standard high school diploma.
The enhancements are designed to maximize junior and senior years of high school and to encourage schools to offer more advanced courses as well as school-to-work opportunities. As part of the requirements for the diploma enhancements, students will be asked to receive minimum achievement levels on the GEE 21 and a minimum score on the ACT.
