FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NATCHITOCHES- NSU Collegium Musicum will present a recital Thursday, May 1 at 7:30 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall. Admission is free and open to the public. Northwestern graduate student Billy Traylor is the director and founder of NSU Collegium Musicum, a chamber ensemble created last year.
The group is comprised of 10 undergraduate music majors and Traylor, who perform music from the baroque and early classical eras.
"Everything we usually play was written during the 18th century," said Traylor. "This includes composers such as Vivaldi, Telemann, Bach, Handel, Mozart, and Haydn, as well as others who are less-known. The music we are performing is for the most part relatively obscure, and is rarely played even in larger cities or in cities with a large school of music. This is something unique for Natchitoches."
The program will include Serenade in B-flat major by Mozart, Prelude and Fugue in C major by Dietrich Buxtehude, Suite no. 1 for Unaccompanied Cello in G major and Suite no. 3 for Unaccompanied Cello in C major by Bach and Trio Sonata in F Major by Jan Dismas Zelenka. The program will also include London Trio no. 2 in G major by Franz Joseph Haydn, Sonata for Recorder and Basso Continuo in C major by Handel and Mozart's Serenade in C minor, 'Nacht Musique.'
The members of Collegium Musicum are Theresa Stallings of Shreveport, Leatra Hillhouse and Leasha Hillhouse of Leesville, Michael Bartnik of Bossier City and Rachael Arvizu of Leavenworth, Kan. The group also includes Jeremiah McMillan of Schertz, Texas, Julie Estrada and Steven Ledford of Natchitoches, Brian Timmons of Arlington, Texas and Elana Bogaczova of Bratislava, Slovak Republic.
